Germany to authorise CO2 storage at sea
The German government wants to authorise CO2 storage at sea. According to the International Energy Agency, there are currently 260 CO2 storage facilities under development. In Europe, Denmark and Norway have authorised CO2 storage at sea. The German government believes that offshore storage is essential if Germany is to achieve its decarbonisation targets while maintaining the competitiveness of its industry. Underground storage on land will remain prohibited.
