European fertiliser imports from Russia to double by 2022
Between June 2022 and June 2023, European urea imports from Russia doubled, boosted by very high gas prices in Europe at the time. Deliveries from Russia have fallen since June 2023, but remain high compared with 2021. Ultimately, Europe has imported from Russia in the form of fertilisers some of the Russian gas that it did not buy. Russian fertiliser manufacturers now have a significant market share in Europe, thanks in particular to their competitive energy supplies.
