The Minister for the Economy wants to renegotiate with EDF
The Minister for the Economy wants to reopen negotiations with EDF on electricity prices if the current majority remains in power. Bruno Le Maire considers that the prices proposed by EDF are not satisfactory and that it is therefore necessary to renegotiate with EDF to obtain competitive prices for French industry. Last November, EDF stated that it was aiming for a long-term average price of €70/MWh. On this basis, a mechanism had been negotiated between EDF and the public authorities for the sale of historical nuclear electricity: sale at the market price capped at €110/MWh, supplemented by long-term contracts (nuclear production allocation contracts) for electro-intensive industries. As far as CAPN is concerned, only four letters of intent have been signed. For its part, EDF claims to have signed 1,600 market offers with a term of four to five years, representing more than 10 TWh of electricity per year.
