Wind-generated electricity reached 475 TWh in 2023
Wind-generated electricity will reach 475 TWh in 2023 in Europe, ahead of gas-generated electricity (452 TWh) and well ahead of coal-generated electricity (333 TWh). Compared with 2022, wind generation has risen by 13%, while gas-fired generation has fallen by 15%. CO2 emissions from the electricity sector will be 19% lower in 2023 than in 2022. In Europe, electricity consumption fell by 3.4%, and remains 6.4% below its 2021 level. However, electricity consumption seems to have stabilised and could even increase by 2 to 3% in 2024.
