The agreement between EDF and the French State signed in November 2023 provided for EDF to offer long-term contracts to electricity-intensive industries at a price based on the production costs of the nuclear fleet. To date, UNIDEN deplores the fact that no contract has been concluded, even though several letters of intent have been signed. The organisation is asking the French government to intervene in the hope that it will improve the conditions proposed by EDF. For UNIDEN, the negotiations are deadlocked over the reference to be used for the cost of nuclear production. EDF is putting forward the current economic cost, based on the replacement cost of plants currently in service, whereas UNIDEN would prefer the contract price to refer to the net book value of the nuclear fleet.
