The future US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent wants to tighten US sanctions against Russian oil in order to put pressure on Russia and bring it to the negotiating table with a view to resolving the war in Ukraine. Scott Bessent believes that the Biden administration has not gone far enough on sanctions, seeking to avoid, for electoral reasons, tightening sanctions to push up oil prices.
