The price of petroleum products in China has risen by 25% since the start of the war
As the world’s largest oil importer, China sources 56% of its oil from the Middle East and 14% from Iran. If China is more resilient than other Asian countries, it is due to its energy mix, its domestic resources and the size of its strategic oil reserves (enough to cover 116 days of imports). It has also negotiated with Iran to secure passage for Chinese oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz. Refusing to intervene militarily, China has drawn up a five-point peace plan with Pakistan that provides for an immediate cessation of hostilities, the opening of peace negotiations, the securing of non-military targets and transport routes, and compliance with the United Nations Charter.
