Developed by Venture Global, the Plaquemines LNG terminal is due to come on stream in the next few days after receiving the necessary authorisations from the US Department of Energy. The terminal will produce 20 million tonnes of LNG a year and will be the second largest of the eight giant terminals operating in the United States. Last year, the United States became the world's leading LNG producer. Five large LNG terminals, including Plaquemines, are currently under construction in the United States. The entry into service of these five terminals will increase US production capacity to 230 billion cubic metres of LNG per year by 2028, compared with 120 billion cubic metres today.
