The interconnection between the United Kingdom and Germany is expected to come into service in 2028.

The NeuConnect interconnection project, with a capacity of 1,400 MW, is expected to come online in early 2028. Construction began in 2023. This is the first interconnection between England and Germany, a high-voltage direct current link that will connect the Isle of Grain in England to Wilhelmshaven in Germany. The link, buried 1.5 metres below the North Sea seabed, is 725 kilometres long, making it one of the longest submarine electricity links in the world. As UK electricity prices are currently higher than German prices, the flow is initially expected to be from Germany to the UK.
