The heat pump market is in decline in 2025

179,000 air-to-water heat pumps were sold in France in 2025, down 1.8% from 2024. The decline compared to 2022 is much more significant, as 350,000 heat pumps were sold at that time. The decline in sales is partly linked to the instability of public subsidies with the suspension of the MaPrimeRénov' scheme in June. There is also considerable instability in the rules governing energy saving certificates, where the complexity of the forms and constant changes are putting off consumers and professionals alike. However, public subsidies are essential for the heat pump market, as the cost of installing a heat pump is much higher than the cost of installing a gas boiler.
