The government wants to reform public support for renewable energy
The Prime Minister has tasked Jean-Bernard Levy, former Chairman of EDF, and Thierry Tuot, former Director General of the Energy Regulatory Commission, with conducting an audit of the cost of renewable energies. The aim of the audit will be to determine both the cost of supporting renewable energies for public finances and the cost of renewable energies for the electricity system (intermittency and connection). Faced with sluggish demand for electricity, the government may be tempted to reduce support for renewable energies, given that France has excess capacity and electricity market prices are falling, making support for renewable energies more costly and EDF's financial situation more precarious.
