The European Union imposes sanctions on Russian LNG
The European Union has decided to impose sanctions on Russian liquefied natural gas for the first time. The sanctions will prohibit Russian LNG tankers, which are generally large enough to sail in the Arctic Ocean, from using European ports to transfer LNG to smaller tankers. The measure is expected to have an impact, as the size of Russian LNG tankers prevents them from accessing many ports, forcing them to use certain European terminals to transfer LNG to smaller tankers.
The new sanctions do not prohibit Member States from acquiring Russian LNG.
