The European Commission presents an action plan for affordable energy
The European Commission recognises that while Europe has made progress in terms of decarbonisation, it remains dependent on fossil fuels and consumers are paying too much for their electricity. Seeking to combine decarbonisation and competitiveness, the European Commission is proposing an action plan aimed at speeding up the granting of permits and authorisations for renewable energies, better integrating the European market, promoting the conclusion of long-term contracts to delink the price of electricity from the price of gas, and developing interconnections and energy storage. The Commission estimates that all these measures could reduce the energy bill of European companies and households by 40 to 45 billion euros by 2030.
