The British government wants to speed up the development of nuclear power
The British government wants to change the regulations to facilitate investment in nuclear power, particularly in small modular reactors. To do this, the government is going to allow developers to identify the sites where they want to build themselves, and to remove the timetable constraints that have been restricting the development of projects. There is only one nuclear reactor under construction in the UK - Reactor C at Hinkley Point - and only one project under development at Sizewell. The government has launched a call for projects for the construction of small modular reactors. Rolls-Royce, Holtec, GE Hitachi and Westinghouse Electric are competing for UK government funding.
