The Belgian government wants to revive nuclear power

The new coalition government in power in Belgium wants to revive nuclear power by extending the existing fleet (4 GW) and launching the construction of new reactors (4 GW). As part of this, the lifespan of the Doel 4 and Tihange 3 reactors is to be extended by a further 10 years to 2045. In 2023, Engie had to agree to restart these plants and operate them until 2035, despite the fact that the group had announced its intention to withdraw from nuclear power and that Belgian law provided for all the country's reactors to be shut down by 2025.
