The ASNR has issued a favourable technical opinion on the Cigéo project

The Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection Agency has issued a favourable technical opinion on the Cigéo nuclear waste disposal project. Launched in 1991, the project aims to store high- and medium-level radioactive waste in deep geological formations. The European Union recommends deep geological disposal for nuclear waste. In Finland, the most advanced country in terms of nuclear waste disposal, the Onkalo project is expected to come into service in the coming months.
