Japanese utility TECO is to restart the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa power plant, which was shut down after the Fukushima disaster. Refuelling of the plant has begun. The plant comprises 7 units and has a total installed capacity of 8 GW. The local authorities have not yet approved the restart of the plant. Nuclear power currently accounts for between 5% and 8% of Japan's energy mix. The government wants to reduce the share of nuclear power to between 20% and 22% in the very short term.
