Solar power production is growing rapidly in the United Kingdom

Between 1 January and 16 August 2025, solar power production in the United Kingdom exceeded the 2024 production level, with 14.08 TWh of electricity generated. Installed capacity has been growing by 20% per year since 2023. On 8 July, solar power covered 40% of national demand. The UK government has committed to installing 46 GW of solar capacity by 2030. Installed capacity at the end of March stood at 18.1 GW. Two-thirds of installed capacity receives subsidies.
