Scottish Government approves Berwick Bank offshore wind project

The Scottish Government has approved the Berwick Bank offshore wind project after 31 months of deliberation. The 4100 MW project is one of the largest offshore wind projects in the world. The green light given to the project, despite its environmental impact, particularly on wildlife, should enable the UK government to achieve its target of developing between 43 and 50 GW of offshore wind power by 2030. Developer Scottish and Southern Energy is due to negotiate a contract for difference with the Low Carbon Company, a state-owned company that acts as the sole purchaser for low-carbon projects in the UK.
