Russian gas supplies to Europe via Ukraine ceased on 1 January 2025

Deliveries of Russian gas to Europe via Ukraine finally came to an end in the early hours of 1 January. Of the three routes for bringing Russian gas to Europe by land, only one remains in service, Turkstream, which links the European part of Turkey to Russia via the Black Sea. Flows via Ukraine accounted for around 5% of the European Union's gas consumption. Slovakia and, to a lesser extent, Hungary are the EU countries most affected. Based on current market prices, Gazprom's loss of revenue can be estimated at €6.5 billion. Ukraine will forgo around €1 billion in transit revenue.
