Russia has destroyed or taken control of half of Ukraine's production capacity
Russian forces have destroyed or taken control of more than 50% of Ukraine's electricity generation capacity. Whereas installed capacity reached 55 GW before the war, the power that can be mobilised today is less than 20 GW, forcing the Ukrainian network to carry out frequent load shedding. This level of destruction will have long-term consequences, warned the Ukrainian energy minister. Russian forces also recently bombed pumping stations at Ukrainian gas storage sites used by European gas companies to store gas.
