RTE to renew 40% of the high-voltage electricity grid by 2040
RTE is to renew 40,000 kilometres of high-voltage power lines over the next fifteen years. The cost of the renewal amounts to 100 billion euros. The plan aims to modernise the network and adapt it to climate change on the one hand, and to build the infrastructure to connect the large offshore wind farms on the other. The current network is sized for electrical uses representing 25% of energy consumption in France. By 2050, the network will have to transmit a volume of electrical energy whose share in the energy mix will have doubled.
