'Renewable Energy for All' sounds alarm over EPR2 cost

The association Renewable Energy for All has alerted the European Commission to the cost of the EPR2 projects for the public purse, which it puts at EUR 259 billion in undiscounted terms for the six reactors. The group argues the cost is disproportionate relative to the strike price of the contract for difference — between EUR 90 and EUR 120 per megawatt-hour — that will serve as the base price for selling the electricity produced. It also contends that the contract for difference benefiting the future EPR2 reactors is liable to distort competition in the French electricity market in EDF's favour, singling out in particular a provision that caps the sums EDF pays back to the State when the market price exceeds the contract's strike price.
