Renewable energies accounted for 86% of capacity increases worldwide in 2023, or 473 gigawatts. At the end of last year, installed renewable capacity reached 3,780 gigawatts. China alone will account for almost two-thirds of the capacity installed in 2023 (297 GW). The Middle East accounts for 16% of the increase in capacity, and Europe for almost 10%. The increase in installed capacity is driven by photovoltaic solar power, which accounts for 73% of the increase, compared with 24% for wind power (+116 GW).
