Prime Minister confirms Spain's commitment to renewable energy
While some experts and politicians in Spain are pointing to renewable energy as the cause of the blackout, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has reaffirmed Spain's commitment to renewable energy. The Prime Minister pointed out that on the day of the blackout, April 28, renewable energy accounted for 70% of total electricity production, a figure that has often been exceeded in the past without causing any problems for the grid. Pedro Sanchez also pointed out that renewable energy provides Spain with competitive electricity and is a key factor in the country's reindustrialization. The Prime Minister also confirmed that Spanish nuclear power plants will cease operations at the end of 2027. Spain's installed nuclear capacity currently stands at around 7,000 MW.
