In June, Poland produced more electricity from renewable energy sources than from coal for the first time. Renewable energy accounted for 44.1% of the electricity mix, compared with 43.7% for coal. Solar photovoltaic capacity now stands at 23 GW. Poland also plans to develop offshore wind power in the Baltic Sea, although the projects are facing strong local opposition. The share of electricity production from natural gas fluctuates between 15 and 20%.
