Nuclear construction costs vary widely from one country to another

The cost of building new nuclear power plants, excluding financing, varies significantly from one country to another. South Korea is the cheapest, at USD 2,157/MW, ahead of China (USD 2,500/MW) and India (USD 2,778/MW). France comes in at USD 4,000/MW, below the United States (USD 4,250/MW), while construction costs in Japan are comparable to France's. Financing then drives up the investment cost to a greater or lesser degree, public capital generally being cheaper than private capital. In China, nuclear power from new reactors costs less than USD 46/MWh, compared with EUR 100/MWh for France's future EPR2 reactors.
