Low gas storage levels worry the German government

With gas stocks at their lowest level in fifteen years, the German government is urging operators to inject more gas before the start of winter. Germany is facing historically low storage: this week stocks were 50% full, against 66% at the same time last year. Gas network operators stress that LNG will not make up for insufficient storage in the event of a cold winter. The German government has not so far decided to intervene by buying gas directly on the markets, as it did in 2022 after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
