The nuclear fuel for the Flamanville 2 reactor should be loaded around mid-April. Between now and then, the French nuclear safety authority (ASN) will hold a final public consultation, which is expected to last around two weeks. The ASN should then authorise the reactor to start operating. An initial production phase should last between 15 and 18 months before an initial shutdown to review the installation. The Flamanville EPR should be the only one of its type in France. The EPR is due to be simplified as part of a new version, the EPR 2, six of which are due to be built in France.
