Electricity consumption down by 3.2% in 2023
Electricity consumption in France fell by 3.2% after adjustment for weather effects, to 445 TWh. Electricity consumption had fallen by 1.2% by 2022, at the height of the energy crisis. There are many reasons for the fall: lower consumption in industry, lower household consumption, and a worsening economic climate. It is difficult to distinguish between what is cyclical and what is structural. In particular, RTE expects consumption in industry to pick up with the fall in prices and the upturn in activity.
