Installed battery capacity should reach 50 GW by 2030
Italy is the European country where utility-scale batteries are developing the most, ahead of the UK and Germany. A capacity of 10 GW was allocated on 1 October following an auction process. Terna, the auction organiser, awarded half of the projects to ENEL.
The Italian government wants to rapidly develop large-scale batteries to facilitate the integration of renewable energies, and has set a capacity target of 50 GW by 2030.
