India is set to become a major outlet for American LNG. India is a market with strong growth potential. While the country imported 18 billion cubic metres of gas in 2012, imported volumes reached 32 billion cubic metres in 2024, against a backdrop of declining domestic production and increased consumption. The Indian government intends to increase the share of gas in the country's energy mix from 6% today to 15% in 2030. By committing to purchase LNG from the United States, India hopes to avoid having new customs tariffs imposed on it.
