IEA expects investment in nuclear power to double
The International Energy Agency expects investment in nuclear power to double over the next five years, reaching 120 billion dollars a year by 2030. By 2025, nuclear power should be generating 2,900 TWh worldwide, covering just under 10% of global consumption. For the IEA, investment in nuclear power can no longer rely exclusively on public finances, and private investors must be attracted. The IEA believes that small modular reactors are the way forward, provided that SMR costs are brought down to the level of large reactor costs by 2040. The size of SMRs and more predictable costs will then make it possible to attract private investors.
