Heatwave forces EDF to cut nuclear output

EDF shut down reactor No. 2 at the Golfech plant (1,300 MW) on the evening of 22 June. Output from reactor No. 2 at Nogent-sur-Seine was lowered from 1,300 to 400 MW on 23 June, and on 24 June reactor No. 3 at Bugey was brought down from 900 to 180 MW. The shutdowns and power cuts stem from environmental rules designed to protect wildlife and avoid overheating river waters — the Garonne, the Rhône and the Seine. Grid operator RTE says the reductions do not threaten security of supply.
