Government unveils content of third multi-year energy programme

The government has unveiled the content of its third multi-year energy programme, which includes the government's targets for the electricity mix, against a backdrop of electricity consumption trends based on the latest RTE scenarios.
The PPE focuses on nuclear power and revises downwards the targets for renewable energy.
The PPE targets an installed photovoltaic capacity of 48 GW and an installed onshore wind capacity of 31 GW by 2030. For the record, at the end of 2025, installed photovoltaic capacity will reach 31 GW and installed onshore wind capacity 23.8 GW.
The target for offshore wind has been revised downwards (from 18 GW to 15 GW by 2035).
Nuclear production will need to reach between 380 and 420 GWh by 2030, compared with 370 TWh produced in 2025. The target of closing 14 nuclear reactors, which was included in PPE 2, has been abandoned.
