Government bans solar installations on agricultural land
The Italian government has imposed a moratorium on the installation of solar photovoltaic electricity generation facilities on agricultural land. New projects will have to be built on non-agricultural land, which is more expensive. Italian renewable energy developers are concerned about the consequences of this decision for their business and for Italy's ability to meet the targets to which the Italian government recently committed itself (€300 billion of investment by 2030 for the energy transition). They also point out that the development of 200 GW of photovoltaic power stations by 2030 would have required only a very small percentage of the country's agricultural land (around 1%).
