Global LNG flows up 2.1% in 2023
Following the strong growth recorded in 2022, global LNG flows rose by 2.1% in 2023, with 401 million tonnes of LNG traded last year (around 600 billion cubic metres). The lower growth in 2023 is due in particular to weaker European demand. European LNG imports reached 121 million tonnes in 2023, stable compared with 2022. Germany became an LNG importer for the first time in 2023. Conversely, LNG imports fell in France (-12.4%), Spain (-13.7%), the United Kingdom (-23%) and Greece (-24.9%).
