Germany will have to install 10 GW of gas-fired combined-cycle power plants

To cope with peaks in demand, Germany will have to install 10 GW of gas-fired power stations by 2030. Storage capacity, currently 13 GW, will have to be increased to 40 GW, and Germany will have to mobilise more flexibility on the demand side to limit the risk of power failures in the 2030s. Germany's electricity consumption is set to rise from 512 TWh to 720 TWh in 10 years, and all coal-fired power stations currently in operation will have to be shut down.
