French imports of Russian LNG increased sharply in 2024

While European LNG imports fell in 2024 compared to 2023 (-19%), French imports of Russian LNG jumped 81% in 2024 compared to 2023. In 2024, France was the leading importer of Russian LNG. The Dunkirk terminal received 27% of European imports of Russian LNG, with a threefold increase in import volumes between 2023 and 2024. 85% of Russian LNG imports transit through France, Spain and Belgium. Some of the Russian LNG imported into France is destined for third countries, although the exact quantities re-exported are unknown.
