French electricity exports reach a record level
The net export balance reached 89 TWh in 2024, exceeding the previous record set in 2002 (77 TW). The high level of exports is the result both of growth in generation, which reached 500 TWh in 2024, including 360 TWh for nuclear generation. But it is also the fall in consumption that explains the balance. In 2024, consumption remains 6% below the average for the years 2014-2019. France exported 27.2 TWh to Germany, 22.3 TWh to Italy and 20.1 TWh to the UK.
