France contributes significantly to Europe's gas and electricity supply-demand balance

In a report to the European Commission and to the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (Acer), published on 26 August, the Commission notes that in 2025 France exported 92.5 TWh of electricity to Germany and Belgium (26.2 TWh), Italy (26.2 TWh), Great Britain (23.2 TWh) and Switzerland (20.2 TWh). France was also the EU's largest LNG importer in 2025, with 249 TWh imported. LNG covers 56% of French gas needs. Some 109 TWh of gas is re-exported to neighbouring countries, notably Switzerland (83 TWh), with most of that volume re-exported on to Italy.
