German experts are calling for electricity market prices to be regionalised. At present, prices are the same throughout Germany, but there are major disparities from one region to another with the development of renewable energies. These experts want to create price zones so that (regional) balances between electricity supply and demand are reflected in prices. The European Commission and ACER (the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators) are in favour of creating price zones in countries where network constraints limit flows, creating de facto energy surplus and deficit regions.
