Europe’s reliance on renewable electricity raises security concerns

A report recently published by a research institute at the University of Oxford highlights the security risks facing Europe. Most of the solar panels installed in Europe are manufactured in China. The report’s authors have identified eight risks, including export restrictions imposed by Beijing, the imposition of tariffs or sanctions by the United States to force Europeans to reduce their dependence on China, or hacking of the control systems for renewable energy assets, which could lead to incidents on the European electricity grid.
