Europe’s distribution grids are struggling to keep up with connection requests

Some 375 GW of renewable power projects and 455 GW of battery storage projects are awaiting grid connection, according to a study by the NGO Beyond Fuels. Slow application-review procedures and a lack of capacity are behind the lengthening queues, leaving an estimated €100 billion of investment stranded. Late last year the European Commission unveiled a draft text aimed at speeding up connections, notably by streamlining review procedures.
