European LNG imports rose by 38% in the third quarter

European LNG imports rose by 38% in the third quarter of 2025 compared to the third quarter of 2024. Combined with the decline in Russian gas imports, the increase in LNG imports led to a redirection of gas flows from west to east in Europe. Gas exports from Germany to Austria, for example, increased eightfold, from 3.1 to 28.8 TWh. Gas prices are generally higher in Eastern Europe than in Western Europe.
