European dependence on LNG weakens European economies
In 2025, Europe imported 88.7 billion cubic metres of liquefied natural gas from the United States. Imports from the United States account for 60% of European LNG imports. In the event of tension on the US domestic market, rising US domestic prices may lead producers to prefer to sell their gas locally rather than export it. The rise in gas prices in January was partly due to competition between the US (Henry Hub) and European (TTF) hubs.
