Europe still heavily dependent on Russia for enriched uranium supplies
Europe imports around 30% of its enriched uranium requirements from Russia. The United States has introduced progressive quotas that will lead to the cessation of American imports of enriched uranium in 2028. Orano has asked the European Commission to follow the American example and introduce quotas. Although achieving zero Russian enriched uranium is difficult in practice, particularly in Eastern Europe, the Commission has committed to reducing the European Union's dependence on Russia for enriched uranium.
