According to the International Energy Agency, electricity consumption in Europe will have risen by 1% in the first half of 2024, following a fall of 3.2% in 2022 and 2.8% in 2023. Excluding the weather effect, the rebound would have reached 2%. The IEA expects electricity demand to grow by 1.7% in 2024 and 2.6% in 2025. Industrial demand remains modest, with industrial production down 3.3% on the average for the last five years. The fall is even more marked (-14%) in the electro-intensive sectors.
