EDF revises upwards the cost of future EPR 2 reactors

EDF's Board of Directors has approved the estimated cost of future EPR 2 reactors at €83 billion in 2025. The projected cost of the six reactors, excluding financing costs, is up 8% from the estimate made two years ago. According to EDF, the cost made public is a maximum that the company is committed to maintaining. The Court of Auditors estimates the cost of the project, including financing costs, at €100 billion, a figure confirmed by EDF. The final investment decision is expected to be made in the second half of 2026. The first reactors will come into service in 2038. EDF estimates that each reactor will take 70 months to build.
