EDF negotiates with the government to extend the lifespan of the Sizewell B power station

EDF is negotiating with the British government to extend the life of the Sizewell B power station by 20 years. If the negotiations are successful, the reactor will remain in operation until 2055. EDF estimates that the investment required to extend the life of the facility will be €916 million. The investment will be shared with Centrica, a co-shareholder in the plant. EDF wants the investment to be financed under a contract for difference with a fixed price guaranteed by the government for the energy sold. Until now, contracts for difference have been reserved for new facilities.
